Dodge Service 101: How to Get Your Vehicle Out of the Snow

February 10th, 2022 by

Nothing is worse than being in a hurry to get somewhere only to get your vehicle stuck in the snow. Luckily, there are things you can do to help prevent this, and to get out of this situation. Follow these Dodge service tips, and you can get out of the snow and back on the road!

Prep Beforehand

There are some things that you should make sure are in your car before that first big snow of the year. First, you should make sure you have an emergency kit. This includes some bottles of water, snacks that won’t mold over, road flares and blankets. In the event that you are stuck for awhile, you want to make sure that you are set to take shelter in your vehicle.

If you are able to get your vehicle out of the snow yourself, the following tools can help you out. A small shovel can come in hand to help dig out the snow around your tires. The name of the game is traction when it comes to getting your vehicle out of the snow, so pieces of cardboard and even kitty litter can be used to help create traction.

Getting Unstuck

Use the shovel to help dig out your tires. If there is ice that’s hard to break apart, use the cardboard or kitty litter to help your tires gain traction. You are going to want to rock your vehicle back and forth a bit. This creates momentum that will help boost you out of the snow. Be patient and don’t try to force it out as that can be disastrous to your vehicle’s health.

Know When It’s Time to Throw in the Towel

If your car is seriously trapped in snow, trying to get out yourself can do more harm than good. Although you may not want to pay for a towing service, it still costs a heck of a lot less than having to pay for something like a new engine, transmission or a set of new tires. When you overly stress your vehicle when it’s stuck in the snow, you have a chance of ruining all three of those components.

Us here at Twin Lakes Chrysler Dodge Jeep® RAM are ready to help you get unstuck and back on the road!
