Engine and Powertrain

While both new SUVs have six trim levels to choose from, the Jeep model offers a choice between two powertrains, where the Honda SUV has just one. Either a 290-horsepower V-6 or a 357-horsepower V-8 with an eight-speed automatic will power the Grand Cherokee L SUV; the Pilot SUV has a simple V-6 powertrain.

Both SUVs offer options for all-wheel drive, but the Jeep model blows its competitor out of the water by offering a choice between three refined all-wheel drive systems, plus an optional air suspension. And its 7,200-pound tow capacity is far superior to the Honda Pilot’s 5,000 pounds.

Technology and Infotainment

The Jeep Grand Cherokee L’s dashboard is graced by a 10.1-inch infotainment touchscreen, which offers standard Apple CarPlay®, Android Auto™, and SiriusXM® satellite radio, as well as optional in-dash navigation and weather updates.

The Pilot SUV’s standard 5-inch display is somewhat lacking in comparison, where upgrades are needed to access the same standard features as the Jeep version, and the largest screen offered is only eight inches.
